With a more attractive price, the BlackBerry Q5 is aimed at a wide audience. With a physical keyboard like the Q10 which it borrows many of specificity that 4G compatibility, Smartphone accessibility could finally push the adoption of BlackBerry 10.
Given the consistency of "all touch" the Canadian manufacturer intends to distinguish machines with a mechanical keyboard, a component of the DNA of the brand.

Note that the micro HDMI video output on the proposed Q10 has gone here and the SAR level is quite high (1.28 W / kg).

Q5 main asset, its physical keyboard combined with a touchscreen. With narrower than the Q10 keys, seizure seemed less comfortable with it. We found typos when typing long message and it will tame this keyboard with your fingertips or nails.
Fortunately, the automatic correction proposed by BlackBerry is still outstanding. A predictive and progressive keyboard that corrects and learns according to different notes. Clear added value offered by the BlackBerry 10 OS.
Once tamed these small, well-spaced keys and backlit, the Q5 will advance as a good companion for messaging.
The Q10 does not shine especially as cameraphone, the Q5 is less. Needless to dwell on captured photos in square format abilities, 16: 9 and 4: 3, the Q5 will take pictures of "troubleshooting" no more.
The images are noisy, faded colors and development by cutting an item from the touch screen is impossible. Note however direct access to the camera from the menu of BlackBerry 10.

Same story for 1080p video at 30 frames / second, lack of control, focus improvement.
In front, the 2-megapixel sensor, however, is satisfactory for video and appreciates Time Laps fun feature.
Daily use, no more!
By choosing to implement a non-removable battery we could imagine that equips its BlackBerry Q5 good battery life.
In practice, this is not the case and our Q5 is not better than the competition is a day use pushed away from a power outlet.
Moreover, apart from a non-removable battery 2180 mAh, we pestons against the lack of an automatic brightness. In our usability testing, we had caller the brightness slider to about 75% (no gauge or accurate indication) to reach the day.

If the screen size and its square format does not lend itself ideally to intensive web browsing, the native browser is effective with full management of HTML 5 and Flash. Impeccable management, intuitive and unified mail, social networking is a real attraction of the BlackBerry 10.
Besides this logic gesture control and excellent keyboard / correction, we also relèverons tool voice control. Accessible from a physical button on the slice operation approaches that of Siri or Voice S (with a data connection required).
In practice, it was less "intelligent" and some queries do not result as a simple application on the weather. It manages the other hand about the calls correctly, sending email, social networks, BBM, the appointment or taking notes, although for the latter, it must do it several times.
If we satisfied overall BlackBerry 10, the application ecosystem remains problematic. The BlackBerry World has clearly expanded since our test Z10 and Q10 and now boasts 120,000 applications, one third of them would be porting Android.
Provided behind this figure, we find some applications brought in haste and questionable to use or absences in games or popular apps. Shazam, Bad Piggies, Viber, Instagram, Temple Run or Fruit Ninja, if you want to download the latest apps headlights, go your way, they are not there!
BlackBerry enhances its DNA again with a machine with a physical keyboard. This Q5 better positioned than its big brother price level requires little sacrifice next performance and should appeal to fans of the brand.
Too bad that does not distribute BlackBerry (yet) in our Q5 countered this in different colors, this could be an argument against a fierce and well placed on the mid-range segment competition.
If the BlackBerry OS 10 is an ergonomic success, consumers clearly applicable will be disappointed. Hardware side, we reproach especially Q5 questionable finish, an average battery life and a non-removable battery.
For those seeking a phone with keyboard, Q5 to 379 euros is a good option to consider.
